This painting has inspired several commissions from people who have fallen inlove with it. It has amazing texture and contrast on the surface. Interesting to get feedback about what different people see in this painting. This is what fascinates me about abstract art and I know I will never get tired of it. Having no identifiable objects in a painting means the viewer can put their own experiences and interpretation on what it could be about. I love that idea !
Her work is inspired by seductive materials such as resin, acrylics and mixed media and are created after meditating on subjects such as the elements, symbolism and emotions.
Cat is an award winning resin and mixed media artist who creates contemporary abstract paintings establishing her own vocabularly of texture and interruption through colour and form. She has been painting since 2004 from her studio on Auckland’s North Shore, after studying Visual Arts at M.I.T. She has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions and welcomes commissions.
By a process of addition and manipulation Catherine explores the relationship between surface and depth, creating a dynamic interplay between elements. This love of materiality is evident in her work.
